1:42 PMThere is a Joan of Arcadia quote I love so much: People do not belong to each other. They choose each other every day.
I’m bringing this up because the problem with me is that I forget. I forget that the simple act of caring is a choice. It is a conscious decision. The people we hang out with, devote our time to, communicate with — they are not random selections. They’re choices. Preferences.
And sometimes. Well, sometimes, we’re not the flavor of the day. Certain people don’t choose us ALL THE TIME. We’re variety people, after all.
I know this doesn’t make much sense to you but it does to me. I guess the main point is simple: You’re not always on top just like you’re not always at the bottom. On some days, you’re the first pick and on some days, you don’t even get picked at all.
Don’t condemn the people who don’t choose you all the time.
When they’ve met enough people and experienced their share of variety, they will always come back to the people who make them feel comfortable. You know it, I know it. You do it, I do it. We’re creatures of habit, after all.
