Ever wondered WHY it's called Roti JOHN?
So here's what WIKI says:
Roti John, essentially an omelette sandwich, is a popular Malay breakfast and snack item in Malaysia and Singapore. The ingredients include minced meat (chicken or mutton), onion, egg, sardines, tomato-chilli sauce and a baguette-type loaf. 'Roti' is the Hindi, Urdu and Malay word for bread, and more generally for any bread-based or bread-like food, including sandwiches and pancakes. The origin of the 'John' in the name is allegedly due to the Western origin of the Baguette and the tomato sauce used in the dish.

Enlightening! I, certainly, have always wondered. We were just at the same bazaar with Anne and the others a few weeks back and they badgered me to try it. I would've, it if weren't for the long line.
ReplyDeleteAha, I can imagine. I waited almost 20 mins for mine D:
